Eko 2012 LOC spreads arms for sponsors

THE marketing and sponsorship sub-committee of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 18th National Sports Festival, tagged Eko 2012, has intensified its sponsorship drive for next month’s sporting fiesta.
With corporate companies like Nigeria Bottling Company (NBC), Alliance Autos, Greenlife Pharmaceutical Company and Nigeria Breweries Plc (NB), among others, already backing the multi-sports tournament, the LOC plans to involve more firms in the competition.
The Sub-Committee chaired by business mogul, Molade Okoya-Thomas, is working hard to bring more corporate bodies to be part of the tournament.
Frantic efforts are also being made by the Okoya-Thomas-led sub committee to woo financial institutions to partner the state in staging the first ever private sector driven sporting championship.
It would be recalled that during the unveiling of the icons for the festival, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, assured that the state would deliver a ‘private sector-driven’ championships.

“For Lagos, it will be nice to win the festival but more importantly, we hope to discover more stars at the festival that will bear our torch at global level,” Fashola said.
“With Lagos as the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, I believe if we cannot deliver a private sector-driven festival, I doubt if there is any state that can do it.
“Hosting the festival is part of our commitment to sports because we intend to provide facilities for our youths so that they can take part in sports.
“For Eko 2012, we are committed to putting up a good show and we believe it help to bring us back to the right path from our wilderness in sports,” Fashola added.
